Who We Are

Founded in 1882 by Colonel Amos Shinkle, CHNK originally served the community as an orphanage for children who were homeless or orphaned. In the 1980s, we shifted our focus to abused, neglected, and at-risk children and their families. Much like our founder, who also financed the building of the Ohio River’s landmark Suspension Bridge, we build bridges – to better futures – for the children in our care.
